Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing, Myanmar’s powerful army chief is urging the country’s rebel groups to stop wasting time on demands he describes as impossible and agree to a comprehensive cease-fire agreement now.

According to Hlaing, the rebel groups have been pursuing greater autonomy for several decades and some of them have declined to take part in cease-fire talks and continue armed struggle for autonomy.
